Mirror gifted by Holly & Martin for this post. All opinions and styling are my own…
Our open concept living area is quite possibly my favorite part of the house! I love the way it encourages more interaction when we’re home together or have guests over…
The challenge of this open space is bringing definition to the “rooms” without making it seem too sectioned off. We felt something was missing, so we decided to create a functional yet stylish entryway. We started by choosing this beautifully sleek Holly and Martin Wais Mirror as the piece to anchor this space…and, don’t miss your chance to win one for yourself in our giveaway at the end of this post!
When it comes to decor/home styling, I’m still learning and tend to be indecisive! I’m thankful Ryan has an eye for design (have you seen his pinterest boards?!), and typically leads the way. Thankfully, we have very similar taste and agree on most things! We knew we wanted this space to be useful yet remain uncluttered…so below I’ve listed the things we kept in mind to help us achieve this.
Styling an Entryway | Four Things to Consider
First Glance: When we open the door this is the first thing people see, gives a peek at our style. We lean towards mid century modern and slightly contemporary to go with the vibe of our 1962 house, we wanted to reflect that.
Function: What do you want it to hold or display? For us, it’s a spot for outgoing mail and keys, but Ryan is a strong believer in “everything has a home” so we’re careful to keep only the essentials out! My favorite things to add a personal touch are fresh flowers, a nice tray/bowl for keys, and family photos. These flowers are from Sage Blooms, a favorite local floral delivery service that specializes in weekly deliveries and unique arrangements in artful vessels to compliment your home…
Last Look: Usually, it’s the last thing we see/check before heading out the door. I always take a last glance to apply lipstick and check my makeup in natural lighting! Because I walk by it so often, I want it to feel welcoming. Playing with height/proportions using a variety of frame sizes or a taller vase would be nice when I’m ready to change it up.
Photo ops: I had not considered this initially, but this mirror seems to be a favorite selfie spot! Our daughter and her friends snapped some fun shots on their way out to an event recently, see the snapshot below…
This mirror defines the space and my favorite feature is the way it appears to be floating within the champagne gold frame. Thanks to Holly & Martin for the lovely piece! It’s the perfect compliment to our entryway (click here for similar console table/desk). It also would look great hung over the chic bar cart from Holly and Martin I featured recently!

An artist friend of mine painted a seascape for me and it looks absolutely fabulous in my entryway. It’s a beautiful focal point and very welcoming.
I love candles and a mirror they always look very nice together
A mirror and candles always look good together
A console table with a mirror or piece of art above it my go-to for entry way decor! A great place to put fresh flowers too… LOVE this Holly and Martin mirror. It’s so much better than the mirror I currently have!
Looks awesome!
I have a small lamp and a bowl for keys on my entryway table. I also have a mirror, but it’s not as nice as this one.
I like having a small table, mirror and place for my keys.
Mirror, catch all table, and plants.
I have a side table in my entryway, I’ve had it for years.
Amazing. Such a welcoming space.
I love a functional but attractive shoe rack and bench. With a kid and dogs I can’t use breakable things lol.
We actually have two old wooden stadium chairs in our entry way – draped with a blanket and some antique books. Great place to throw a purse or bag when guests arrive.
Small table with a mirror to check yourself on the way out the door 🙂
My entryway has a mirror and console table with a lamp
I always love tall flowers in an entryway!
I like a mirror by the door.
An antique mirror.
