In keeping with my goals for 2013, I’ve been thinking about changes I want to make in regards to nutrition/food. I truly believe that the food I eat impacts how I feel both physically and mentally. For the most part, I think that we eat a generally healthy diet with the occasional indulgences.
Lately though, we’ve been dining out and eating sweets too frequently (darn those Girl Scout cookies!). I don’t think either of these are “bad”, but when done too often, can lead to developing some not-so-great habits. It is time to clean things up and establish some new habits!
I’ve been thinking about trying the Whole30 for a while now, but hadn’t really taken the plunge because I didn’t know enough about it. So, I ordered “It Starts With Food,” by Dallas and Melissa Hartwig, who started the program, to read up on it. The book explains the plan well, and goes into detail about the reasons and science behind it. So, after spring break, I am going to start my first Whole30!
I’ve done similar plans before and always felt great after getting through the first week, so I’m cautiously optimistic about it. Being optimistic, however, does not mean that I probably won’t complain about missing my Ezekiel toast in the morning or not having dessert after a meal for 30 days. For those of you who have tried it, please send your favorite tips my way, either by comment or email. Stay tuned for posts during my Whole30……the good, the bad, and the ugly!
I look forward to reading your posts the next 30 days! Post pics!
Thanks! Pics to come….
Truly the best decision you could have made! Congratulations!!
Thanks! I can’t wait to get started. Monday, the 18th, will be my first day!
You can do it!! I really like skinnyms.com for meal ideas. We really try to go with the minimally processed, but don’t know how great we are. Good luck and keep us posted!
Thanks, Melinda! I will check out that website as well for ideas. Are you guys doing whole 30 right now, or have you done it before?
Way to gp Drea, I can’t wait to continue hearing about the Whole30
Thanks, Linda! Its been great so far…Only thing I feel like I am still missing is a “sweet” after dinner:-)
