REVIEW: ORIGIN NATURAL FOOD

IMG_4872logoLocationI had heard about Origin from a friend, and really wanted to try it.  So, last week, I went in after a workout, planning to grab some lunch and a coffee to go.  I was still in the middle of my Whole 30, so I did a bit of research beforehand to be sure I would have some options.  I was browsing the refrigerated section and one of the women who worked there came over and was super helpful.  I explained what my restrictions were for W30, and she showed me which menu items would work for me.  Their entire menu is dairy free, gluten free, and has no preservatives.  All of the nutrition info is listed on the labels.  There were several great options to choose from!  I was pretty hungry, so I decided on the Grass-Fed Flank Steak with Cauliflower Mash and Brussels Sprouts.  It also came with a Balsamic sauce, but she checked it to be sure, and it did contain some added sugar.  So, I did not eat the sauce, and was thankful that she went out of her way to investigate for me!  I had never actually eaten Brussels Sprouts before this, so I was glad to try them!  The portion sizes are generous.  They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner entrees, snacks, and desserts.

I had not planned on staying because I thought it was a grab and go type of place, but it is so much more!  There are lots of tables where you can sit and work (Free WiFi) or catch up with a friend.  They have outside seating as well.  There is a warm-up station with microwave and toaster oven where you can heat up your meal and eat there.  They have a great espresso bar right in the center, with an awesome looking bright green La Marzocco espresso machine.  They offer lots of coffee options…espresso drinks, chemex,  french press, plus more.  All their coffee beans come from East Dallas micro-roaster, Cultivar Coffee.  They offer a great selection of teas from  Sterling Tea in Rockwall.  You can purchase loose tea, or they can brew a hot or iced tea while you wait.  I ended up staying, enjoying my meal and getting a little work done.  My entree was wonderful!  The steak was perfectly cooked, the cauliflower mash was yum, and who would’ve thought that brussels sprouts could be so tasty?!  I had an Americano from the espresso bar, and it was also perfect.

Let’s just say that I liked it so much, I ended up returning later in the week.  I think this may be my new fave place.  Second time around I tried the No Pasta Pasta with Free Range Chicken Breast and a custom brewed iced tea.  Amazing, again!  I love the laid back atmosphere, and I am sure I will be returning soon!
