Happy Friday! Headed somewhere fun this weekend or for Labor Day? I’m sharing some of my tried and true tips for healthier travel. This summer we went on several road trips and incorporating these things helped us save time, money, and kept our energy levels high! (My favorite summer travel outfit is linked at the end of this post, and you can find the rest of the travel-friendly items featured at HSN.)
Practicing healthy habits while traveling will keep you feeling your best! Travel is hard on your body. Taking good care of yourself can maximize your time away and help you feel refreshed upon your return. I don’t know about you, but I hate when I over indulge and under rest when I travel, and then come home feeling exhausted! Try these strategies and you’ll arrive at your destination/home feeling rested, nourished, and energized…
Pack a Clutter-Free Bag
Seems like a small thing, but packing an clutter-free bag is the first step! Being organized saves time when you’re preparing to head out for the day. When traveling, seek out smaller sizes of your favorite products. HSN has a great selection of travel size cosmetics, skin care, sunscreen, hair products, and more! I like to pack an all in one travel bag with plenty of compartments like this one from Joy Mangano…I have two of these and use them all the time. Available in several sizes and colors.
Prep Healthy Food To-Go
Avoid getting hangry (or even worse, your kids getting hangry!) by packing your own healthy meals and snacks. Healthy options on the road can be few and far between, so it’s nice to have a fresh meal or snack ready to eat. These all in one lunch containers are a must have, and kids love them too! They feature several compartments, plus a spoon and fork set built right in. I fill ours with chicken salad or rolled up deli meat, fruit, vegetables, olives, and our favorite dressings/dips.
When traveling, I also aim to make healthy choices when dining out and I never skip breakfast! Making healthy choices most of the time and being selective with what I decide to indulge in is a strategy that has worked well for me over the years! I ask myself, “Do I really want this and is it worth it to me?” I learned this from Whole30 and it’s been a game changer! Seems simple but taking the time to ask that question has made a difference.
Move and Hydrate
Monitor your activity and sleep with a Fitbit! I love the slim, streamlined design and easy to read display. This model tracks your heart rate, steps, and calories burned. It’s the perfect travel companion!
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water! Staying hydrated will help you avoid headaches, fatigue, and other travel-related issues. Keep an insulated water bottle with you, and sip/refill throughout the day. Add a squeeze of lemon or lime for flavor! Try to minimize alcohol and caffeine intake, as these act as diuretics. Especially true if you’re very active or at high altitude!
Break a Sweat!
Start your day with a quick workout for a boost of energy! Or, be sure to include an activity or walking each day. Pack workout equipment you can use anywhere. Bands are super versatile and take up very little space. Another fun thing to do is seek out a studio and try a class somewhere new. And, don’t forget to pack your workout clothes…
Rest and Rejuvenate
Be sure to allow for rest and relaxation! Take an afternoon nap, sleep in, and enjoy being on a relaxed schedule. On travel days, take along a soft throw and travel pillow and catch a few extra z’s!
Outfit Details
Athleta With Ease Tank (the high neck/cut in shoulder style is my favorite lately) / Lululemon Street to Studio II Pants (also love this pair and these, too) / Vans Slip On Sneakers (a wardrobe staple, only $60!) / BP Mirrored Aviators ($12…love the black with mirrored lenses!)
I hope these tips and products help you make the most of your end of summer travels…
Have great weekend + thanks for stopping by!
