The Spa and Wellness Center at The Blake

Activewear is the perfect thing to pack for a mountain getaway! I love these versatile pieces from Athleta and New Balance for J. Crew! Great for layers for lounging or breaking a sweat! As I mentioned in my last post, we enjoyed our time at The Spa and Wellness Center at The Blake during race weekend!

We stayed in the ski valley two nights, so there was just enough time for post-race relaxation.  The extensive spa and fitness facilities at The Blake are thoughtfully and beautifully done.  I’m sharing our experience, along with a special reader discount at the end of this post, to use on your visit!  And later this week, I’ll also be sharing a quick travel workout circuit I use when I’m away from home…

The Spa at the Blake offers an array of unique treatments inspired by the native cultures of Northern New Mexico.  You’ll definitely notice a Taos twist on a traditional spa menu here.  With many interesting options, it’s tough to narrow down and make a decision!  View the full menu..

Marisa and I planned to treat ourselves to a mom/daughter “spa day” after the race.  After the excitement and adrenaline rush, I was ready for down time!  I decided on the Dry Brush Therapy and Massage to aid in my recovery.  After being in Taos for several weeks, Marisa was feeling the effects of the arid environment on her skin, so she chose the Moisture Quench Facial

From the moment you enter The Spa, you know you’re in for something special!  The decor echoes the rustic, yet elegant Taos-infused vibe of the hotel.  We checked in a little early, changed into our robes, then headed to the lounge for tea.  The lounge areas are gorgeous and ultra cozy!  The Spa features refreshing local tea blends from tea.o.graphy.  I especially liked the organic, caffeine-free High Desert Sage, which featured sage, cassia cinnamon, peppermint, and dutch lavender.  The teas are also stocked in each guest room!

Strange fact about me:  I typically do not choose massage when I visit a spa.  I never can get quite comfortable enough to enjoy it, and its hard for me to get my mind to rest during the treatment!  That being said, I really wanted to try a massage here and after a grueling trail race, I knew it would be good for my body!

In the lounge awaiting our spa treatments at The Blake in Taos Ski ValleyThe Dry Brush Therapy with massage turned out to be the perfect combo!  This treatment lasted approximately an hour and left my skin feeling remarkably soft and smooth.  It begins with dry brush exfoliation and ends with an aromatherapy infused massage utilizing herbal poultices.

I don’t know if it was because I was exhausted from the race, the shorter massage time, or a combination of both…but I relaxed, melting into the table!  My massage therapist was awesome!  I requested light/medium pressure and that’s exactly what I received.  It was the most calming massage I’ve ever experienced and I almost fell asleep!

The Moisture Quench Facial was Marisa’s first spa facial, and she absolutely loved it!  She enjoyed the entire process and her skin was noticeably glowy post-treatment.  She said it felt extra smooth and hydrated in the days following!  She enjoyed talking with the esthetician about skin care and learned some helpful tips!

After this experience, I see many spa dates in our future!  It’s a sweet way to unwind and spend time together.  After our treatments, we headed back to the room to change and meet up with the boys.  We had reservations that night at 192, the restaurant at The Blake.  Race day also happened to be our 17th anniversary, so we celebrated with dinner as a family.  We figured we’d have a date night alone when we returned to Dallas!

Thanks to the super steep inclines and descent of the race course, I woke up with sore legs the next morning!  It always helps to get moving the day after, even if you don’t feel like it!  We headed to the fitness center to work up a sweat with a (light) cardio and weights session.  Ryan and I were both especially impressed with the facility and equipment.  It’s definitely not your average hotel fitness center!

In addition to all of the Precor strength training machines, free weights (plus a squat rack!), and Peloton bikes, there’s also a sizable group fitness room stocked with yoga and group fitness equipment!  Yoga and other fitness classes are held here, and the room can be used for stretching/cool down when not in use.
