Ready for Spring Break Skiing with Saint Bernard

Taos ski ValleyI looked at my calendar in disbelief this weekend when I realized Spring Break is right around the corner!  To be honest, we’ve had a busy start to the year, so I’m thankful for the break coming up.  I’m excited to be heading back to Taos to relax, spend time with family, and SKI!

If you follow me on instagram, you might remember me posting about skiing again after a very long hiatus…at least 15 years!

I grew up in Taos and learned to ski there, but not until I was a bit older than most of my skiing friends.  In sixth grade I decided to join the Ski Club at school, which went skiing every Wednesday throughout the season.  When I look back on it, what an amazing program it was!  As long as you kept up your grades you could go to Taos Ski Valley, once a week for the entire day.  In the morning you’d have a group lesson according to ability, eat lunch there, and then ski on your own with friends for the afternoon.

It was so much fun and I have great memories of that time!  After that year, I went skiing occasionally.  I became a decent skier, but never went on the more challenging runs.  I was a cautious skier and content to stay on the green and blue runs.  I just enjoyed being out there!  The last time I went skiing was in my teen years…

As an adult, I wanted to get back into it because we spend so much time in New Mexico, but hadn’t made the effort to really go for it…

Ryan grew up on the slopes and kept it up over the years, going whenever he had a chance.  Marisa started skiing a few years ago and took to it quickly, looking forward to Ski School every winter we spent in Taos.  So, before the holidays this past year, I decided it was finally my time to try again!  I went to Saint Bernard and impulsively bought a pair of ski pants…because if I had the gear, I had to go, right?!

My brother, Robert, was also visiting over the holidays and in the same boat, skill-wise.  We decided to jump back in by taking a day of beginner lessons together!  From our experience, I highly recommend the adult beginner ski school at TSV!  We did the Yellowbird program, which includes a morning and afternoon lesson, beginner lift ticket, and rentals.  We were nervous at first, but once we got our bearings we re-discovered how much fun it was and wanted more!

Our instructor, Charlie, was fantastic, and pushed us just enough.  We went back for a second day and moved up to the next level, which was a morning lesson and full lift ticket to ski on our own in the afternoon.  Our goal was to go up the main lift and ski down Whitefeather before the end of the day.  While it was kind of intimidating to be back up there, we enjoyed the challenge!  We were inspired to improve our skills.  With such an amazing mountain in our hometown, we’d be crazy not to!

Saint Bernard has top winter styles on sale (in store and online), up to 40% off!  Last week I stopped by to shop for a new jacket to wear for Spring Break!

I fell in love with this black (of course!) Obermeyer Tuscany Jacket (also loved the Bombshell jacket).  I chose the Tuscany because of its sleek, feminine fit and technical features.  It comes in several colors, sizes 2-20, and is available in petites, too.   And my favorite part…it was on major markdown!  I can’t wait to wear it on the slopes…It coordinates perfectly with my Bond II ski pantsalso from Obermeyer, and on sale now!

Be sure to check out the Winter Sale at Saint Bernard for amazing pricing on winter gear for the entire family.  Several styles from brands such as Canada Goose (20% off coats $500 or more), Obermeyer, The North Face, and Patagonia have already been marked down.  There’s also amazing deals to be found on the warmest footwear from Ugg and Sorel.  It’s a perfect time to get new gear for spring skiing or to get a jump on next year’s winter wardrobe.  Shop my favorite picks from the sale organized by category below, by clicking directly on the images…
