Trail Running in Taos with New Balance

New Balance Running Activewear and running sneakers are perfect for training for a trail race at Taos Ski Valley!Hi everyone!  If you follow me on instagram and/or Facebook, you’ve probably noticed we’ve been on the go quite a bit lately, fully enjoying our summer stay in Taos.  That said, I’m beginning to catch up on blog posts this week!  I have photos from many of our New Mexico travel experiences to share with you, so be sure to check back often or subscribe here so you don’t miss a post!  There’s so much to see and do in this area and we’re soaking it all up!  I’m beyond grateful for Taos and the time we are able to spend here!

I’ve been training for the Up and Over 10K Trail Race in Taos Ski Valley…

It’s right around the corner…this coming Saturday, actually!  It will be my second time participating in this race.  The entire course has stunning views of the valley and surrounding mountains.  I’m slightly nervous but mostly excited to tackle the challenge once again!

Since a large portion of this race is a steep uphill climb, I’ve been hiking as much as I can!    In fact, I’ve fallen in love with hiking.  It’s kinda funny to me to say that because I’ve never been a particularly adventurous, outdoorsy type!  Over the last few years I’m drawn more and more to the mountains, and now I can’t imagine my summer without at least one hike to Wheeler Peak!

New Balance Trail Running Taos Ski Valley

Summer at TSV is absolutely gorgeous…you really have to experience it for yourself!

Two of my favorite hikes (Williams Lake and Wheeler Peak) are in Taos Ski Valley where these photos were taken.  You just can’t beat exploring nature and taking in fresh air and beautiful scenery, all while getting a great workout.  To compliment this, I’ve kept up my strength training routine 3-4 days/week and added running (usually as my cardio on strength days).

New training gear is my love language…

New Balance running pieces have been a motivating factor in my training this summer.  Y’all know that black and mesh are favorite components of my active wardrobe!   Running crops with mesh panels and reflective stripes are perfect for hitting the trails.  The fabric is compressive and wicks sweat fast!  One of my favorite layering combos lately is a high neck sports bra and airy tank.  This outfit keeps me comfortable and cool while running or hiking…

It’s all about the shoes!

Trail runners are an essential for hiking and running on rocky trails.  I learned my lesson while wearing regular running sneakers during last year’s race!  I’ve been alternating between two styles of trail runners from New Balance this summer and love them both!

The sneakers I’m wearing here are the Minimus 10v1 Trail Runners.  They provide a minimal barefoot feel while still protecting and supporting my feet.  I love wearing these on light/moderate trails.  The Fresh Foam Hierro v2 trail runners are another favorite that provide more cushioning and protection while still being light and moveable.  These are perfect for the rockiest of trails!  The pair I choose to wear depends on which trail I’ll be on.  Both provide traction, and help me run confidently and in control of my footing on uneven terrain!
