Every winter I look forward to the time we spend in Taos, NM. The scenery is always wonderful, but it is particularly breathtaking in the winter months. It is where I grew up, and where most of my family still resides. We have lived in Dallas since 2002 and it is our home, but Taos will always be home, too! I feel fortunate that we have a place to come back to, an escape from the city to recharge and renew. I also love that we can bring our kids here, to immerse them in the culture and outdoor activities that Taos has to offer.
On this trip, we spent time at Taos Ski Valley. Anyone who loves to ski or snowboard has to visit TSV! Even if you don’t ski or board, it is still a must-see to experience its natural beauty. It’s an amazing mountain with a character all its own. There’s so much history here that you really have to visit to experience it for yourself! Ryan and I both learned to ski at TSV, and now Marisa is learning as well. Andrew is not interested just yet, but hopefully he will be soon! I look forward to the time when all four of us can ski together! (More info at skitaos.org)
The Hotel St. Bernard is a landmark hotel at TSV with an outstanding reputation. We stopped at Le Petit Cafe on the hotel’s deck to warm up with a delicious cup of Kona coffee. Both the hotel and cafe are owned and run by the Mayer family, and the coffee comes from a family property in Hawaii. Great hospitality runs in this family!
