Juice Beauty Phyto Pigments Mascara

Mascara from Juice Beauty contains organic and natural ingredients. I don’t wear full makeup daily, but mascara is one of my essentials.  Most days, as I’m headed to a workout I try to do a 5 minute quick fix before walking out the door!  Applying a light coat of tinted moisturizer, mascara, and lip gloss is a simple way for me to feel pulled together.  Using products that are as clean as possible and gentle on my skin is important to me, especially because I’ll be sweating.  All of that being said, I was excited to try this mascara from Juice Beauty!  (They’ve also provided extras to give away on instagram, so be sure to follow me there (@loubiesandlulu) for a chance to win!)

Being somewhat of a mascara junkie, it’s a beauty product I get excited about purchasing!  I’ve tried several, and I’d been searching for an organic formula for some time.  It’s an elusive product to locate.  What I’ve learned is that mascara is actually very difficult to formulate with organic and natural ingredients!  I didn’t want to know this, but there are lots of harmful ingredients/dyes/glues that go into my favorite traditional mascara formulas.  Having this clean product (63% organic!) to add to my rotation is a welcome alternative!

I’m really glad I watched the short video tutorial, providing application tips (from Gwyneth!!) for this specific formula.  It was helpful because she explains that the brush and application are a little different that you might be used to.  I’ll list the tips below along with my own, but also check out the video for more info…

Keep this in mind, the key is light layers.  If you try to apply too much at once while wet, it won’t go on as well…

  • Curl your lashes as you normally would.  I love the Kevyn Aucoin eyelash curler
  • This mascara is buildable.  One coat is lengthening.  Leave it as-is for a natural look.
  • For more definition, let it dry completely.  Then apply a second coat.
  • Let dry, and repeat with a third coat if desired…
  • If you add a second and/or third coat, you will get more volume/thickening with each one.
  • Optional:  After completely dry and you are finished, lightly curl lashes again.

Note:  I have super-straight lashes.  I find this mascara takes a tiny bit longer to dry than some of the other brands I’ve used.  Because of this, my lashes lose some of their curl as I apply.  My solution is to lightly use my lash curler over them once I’m satisfied with the coverage and totally dry/finished…for this to work, you have to wait until they’re completely dry!  If you have a natural curl to your lashes this may not be an issue…
