This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend a Jillian Michaels BODYSHRED Master Class at SCW Dallas Mania.
Dallas Mania is an annual three day fitness pro convention, where instructors and trainers go to get inspired, recharge, and learn. Classes/workshops are taught by world renowned fitness educators, leading sessions on various topics.
The class was taught by Mark Shipman (pictured above), NASM certified personal trainer and Master Trainer for Jillian Michaels. I met Mark during my first year of blogging, taking his packed cycling classes at Flywheel. He’s one of the most motivating, knowledgeable, and fun instructors around. I always get a great workout when he’s teaching because he is so good at coaching you to do your best and get the most out of your time!
BODYSHRED is a high intensity, endurance based 30 minute interval workout.
You complete 4 sets of exercises that are broken down into STRENGTH (3 minutes), CARDIO (2 minutes), and CORE/ACTIVE RECOVERY (1 minute). Each exercise is done for 30 seconds. It moves fast, but the way it’s taught is very easy to follow along and keep up. In true Jillian Michaels style, you get a full body workout in 30 minutes, and by the time you’re done, you’re drenched! Mission accomplished. This is the reason I loved this class! BODYSHRED is perfect for days that you don’t have a lot of time, but you still want a great workout.

What do people love most about the BODYSHRED workout?
Participants love several aspects of the BODYSHRED workout. First, the 30 minute time frame is manageable for any schedule. The fact that the workout is fast paced and changes every 30 seconds keeps people motivated and engaged. Lastly, they get results and it takes as little as 30 days to see and feel a change in their body!!
What’s your favorite thing about teaching BODYSHRED?
Teaching BODYSHRED is so fun! I am constantly challenging myself as an instructor to develop workouts that follow the science of what makes the program work! I also love the fast paced energy the program is made of. Last, I love watching my participants accomplish more than they thought was possible! It’s extremely rewarding!
What are other workouts that compliment BODYSHRED/ recommendations on how to integrate this class into a fitness routine?
Because BODYSHRED is such a metabolically driven workout it’s best to take days off in-between workouts. On these ‘off’ days, yoga, a steady run or strength training compliment the body perfectly.
With 30 minutes of intense intervals, how can this workout be modified for beginners?
BODYSHRED has modifications for every move in the program. Regardless of your fitness level you CAN complete the class. An example is a push-up. While some people will need to go to their knees to complete the push-up, others may be able to make the push-up plyometric to meet their level. The instructor will assist with giving modifications and motivate participants to give their absolute best!
Anything else you’d like people to know about BODYSHRED?
BODYSHRED is all science based. We never move for the sake of just moving. We build classes that are purposeful and sequenced so that you get the maximum results in the minimum amount of time. While BODYSHRED is challenging, it’s also so fun and the accomplished feeling you have after completing the class can’t be duplicated!! Give it a try- you will love it!
