Andrea-137How do you fit your workouts in when the kids are out of school during the summer?  I get this question a lot!  Its true that it’s easier to schedule exercise during the school year.  Typically I just head to the gym after drop off.  But, with summer comes various camps, pool time, vacations, other activities…and an irregular schedule!  I have to be a little more strategic with planning, in order to stay on track!

There are three key things I do to make this happen…

  1.  Make a weekly Sweat Schedule!  I do this, especially during times I know I’m going to be busy or our schedule is irregular.  It holds me accountable, and motivates me to check off each workout I plan.  Of course, there are times I miss a workout or plans change, but if I set my intentions at the beginning of the week, I’m much more likely to follow through…  (Figure out what works for you in terms of time of day/place to work out.)
  2. Be open to other options!  Personally, I like to do 4 strength training/cardio workouts per week at the gym.  But, I also have a backup plan I can do at home if I can’t make it or I’m short on time (or in a hotel gym if I’m traveling).  I have a few sets of dumbbells, a resistance band, and a mat at home…there is lots you can do with a few pieces of equipment and your own body weight!  A brisk walk or run through your nearest park can also be a great option!  Check out my workout section for examples/ideas…
  3. Mix it up and have some fun!  Because it’s so hot out, summer can be a great time to try new indoor workouts.  I like to add in one or two classes each week (yoga, pilates, barre, or cycling) to keep things fresh, and enjoy moving my body in a different way.  During the hot months, I especially love cycling classes because the a/c is usually cranked up in those studios!  Another way to mix it up is to workout at a time of day that’s different for you.  I usually workout mid-morning, but if I know I’m going to have a crazy day, I might schedule an early bird workout before my kids are even out of bed!

All of that being said, I think its very important to allow for plenty of rest and rejuvenation!  After all…it is  summer!  How do you stay motivated when then temperature rises?  Thanks for stopping by!  xx

How’s sizing on the L’urv bra? They have one that matches my current favorite pants but I’m nervous it won’t fit.

Also, LOVE this outfit and these pics! Mary did a great job! I need to get Alala’s new flyweight tee. I have the old style but they revamped it this season–it looks great on you!

Hi Suzanne! I loved these crops on you, too, and the bra and jacket you paired with them 🙂 I have a few alala tops, but these are my first bottoms…really like the fit and feel of them. Also that they aren’t loose around the calf area.

I’m not sure if the L’urv bra comes in an XS or not, but the Small was perfect for me. In lulu bras, I am a pretty solid 4, if that helps for reference. It’s really comfortable, too! Only thing i didn’t like was the pads it came with, so I replaced them with lulu ones. I love this flyweight tee…I think I will wear it a lot this summer as a light layer. I sized up to a small in this one because the xs was a lot shorter and I wanted a slightly looser fit.

Thank you so much for the kind words about the pics!! Mary is super fun to work with! Let’s catch up soon…
