The (Wear With Everything) Utility Vest

utility vest Let’s talk about favorite wardrobe pieces…You know, the ones you reach for again and again, that go with lots of things in your closet, and you feel great wearing?  There are times I wear certain pieces so often, I want to buy a “backup” in case anything happens to the original!  Today’s outfit, consisting of several wardrobe staples reflects this idea.

Last fall, I bought an olive green anorak and wore it all the time (still do, actually)!  It looked equally great over my activewear/sneakers outfits and with jeans and booties.  This season, I’ve been on the lookout for a similar light layer that will work casually, with athleisure looks, and even dressed up.  I stumbled upon this utility vest recently while shopping at Saint Bernard and had to have it!  Its a perfect fall transition piece!

I was initially drawn to its modern cut and soft fabric.  Made of tencel, it moves with you and has a nice drape.  Its from Cupcakes and Cashmere, a favorite brand for “basics styled to perfection.”  I also liked the drawstring waist feature to create definition, which can be helpful when you’re petite.  It’s still very hot in Dallas, so I paired it here with my favorite camisole, high rise skinnies, and open toe booties.

If you’re looking for a budget friendly camisole, check out this one.  It can be worn two ways (straps in front or back), available in lots of colors, and is only $30!  The jeans I’m wearing are an affordable find, and I like the fit so much I own them in two other colors.  Probably because they are the closest thing to leggings without actually being leggings, and they come in a 30 inch inseam!  I also wore these booties all summer long, and will continue to do so into the fall.  I love everything about them, lace up styling, chunky wood heel, under $100, comfortable, and versatile!

If you’re thinking this top looks similar to the one in my last activewear post, you’re correct!  I’ve been obsessed with my strappy front sports bra and wearing it under everything.  I layered it under my cami here!  Proof that sports bras can (and should!) be worn outside the gym!  Brands are making them so chic these days, so why not?  And, they’re more comfortable than the alternative!

I’ve already envisioned plenty of fall outfits using this vest as an outer layer, now the temperature just needs to drop!  I’d love to hear about your most favorite fall pieces…feel free to comment below.  Thanks for stopping by!  xo
