FLYWHEEL SPORTS – CYCLING CLASS

First Impressions:  I signed up online for my free first ride.  They have a very sleek looking website and it is easy to navigate.  You get to choose where your bike will be in the stadium and let them know what size cycling shoes you will need.  When I arrived, all I had to do was sign in at the computer station in the entryway and my shoes were already set to go in the cubby numbered with the bike I had chosen for the ride!  They have lockers available for your belongings, towels, and a water station.  All the extras!  They also have shower rooms stocked with Bliss products and everything you might need if you decide to get ready there.  The cycling room is set up with stadium seating so that every bike has a good view of the instructor.  The staff was very helpful in setting up my bike with the proper settings for height, arm reach, etc.  It had been at least two years since my last cycling class….yikes!  I clipped my shoes in the pedals, and was ready to go!

The Workout:  Jen R. was the instructor.  She had great energy and a fun playlist for the class.  On the bike itself was a small digital screen where you could see the “Torq” (resistance) displayed and your RPM.  Jen would call out ranges for what the Torq and RPM should be.  Some sets were sprint sets and others were climbs, but within each set were intervals.  This made the class seem to go by quickly, even though we were working really hard!  Thankful for that!  On each side of the bike was a weighted bar.  During one of the songs, we used the bars for sets of different upper body movements, such as bicep curls, overhead presses, and triceps extensions.  The class ended with a cool down and light stretching.  It was 45 minutes from start to finish.

Final Thoughts: I had forgotten what a great workout cycling class can be!  My legs were burning!  I felt that I pushed myself hard during the class.  The climbs felt particularly challenging.  I think that cycling classes are definitely an efficient way to burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time.  They are also great for your legs and behind!  Flywheel makes it easy for you to show up, do your workout, and be on your way.  I love it when studios/gyms have all the little extras that make your visit super convenient.  I also really liked that everything was high tech.  You can even log into your account to track your progress of each ride, and if you are a competitive type, you can see your stats in real time displayed on the board in the studio.  Or, you can opt out of that!  At Flywheel, their motto is “NEVER COAST.”  A perfect fit for a studio whose classes are very motivating!  I loved it, and I will be back to try another class soon!
